Diglipur, the largest town in the North Andaman Islands, often goes unnoticed due to its distance from other popular tourist attractions (Havelock and Port Blair). But it's possible that it's the distance that makes Diglipur so unique and exciting. With its diverse flora and fauna, natural parks, and vibrant marine life, there are numerous ways to spend your vacation actively. Diglipur is a wonder for all, from climbing the highest peak in the Bay of Bengal to exploring the breathtaking twin islands of Ross and Smith, observing an active mud volcano, or witnessing turtles (nesting and hatching) on pristine beaches.
Ross and Smith Islands, home to palm-fringed beaches, long shores, an emerald ocean, and natural wonders, are located 20 kilometers from Diglipur and 320 kilometers from Port Blair. These twin islands, nestled in the lap of the Andaman archipelago, orchestrate a color play in nature's palette that changes with the tide and the sun. Ross and Smith Islands, one of the most popular tourist destinations, can be identified in the photos by the symbolic natural sandbar that connects these sister islands. Commercial activities are not permitted in order to protect the environment. The clear water that surrounds Ross and Smith Islands is ideal for snorkeling and swimming. Ross & Smith Islands are two separate islands connected by a slim fifty-meter long natural sand bar where travellers get to walk from one island to the other while being surrounded by crystal clear tranquil sea.
Kalipur beach is located behind the peaceful village of Kalipur and is easily accessible by local bus from the main Diglipur bazaar. It is one of the few beaches in the world where four species of sea turtles (Olive Ridley, Leather Back, Hawksbill, and Green Turtles) come to lay their eggs. The beach features volcanic grey sand and crystal clear water. As a result, it is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Sunbathing is not recommended due to the presence of sand flies. At low tide, the beach appears desolate, with dead corals breaking the surface and some mangrove trees embracing the shore.
Lamiya Bay Beach is synonymous with a peaceful, clean, and exotic beach in Andaman. This bay beach is located in Diglipur Town, which is located in the northern part of Andaman Island. The beach is surrounded by greenery, and the natural beauty has remained untouched by modernization, making it an ideal destination for those looking for a quiet getaway. Furthermore, the beach has appropriate lodging and dining options. Anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city should plan a trip to Andaman's Lamiya Bay Beach.
Ramnagar Beach is another lovely beach 35 kilometres from Diglipur. This beach allows swimming, which can keep you entertained for a long time. A tropical forest surrounds this beach, as it does other places in Diglipur, and you can trek through the trails to keep yourself amidst a perfect combination of blues and greens, as well as the sandy beach nearby. There are eco-friendly beach amenities like log sofas, Eco huts, and seating on the beach to make it comfortable to spend some time here. During the winter months of December to March, Ramnagar Beach is considered a turtle nesting site.
